Performer · theatre-maker · teacher
Jon Bode
A career on professional stages. A working knowledge of primary classrooms. One practice feeds the other.

Performance is the subject. It is also the method.
Jon trained in musical theatre at WAAPA, then built a career across theatre, musical theatre and opera in Australia and overseas. His credits include Melbourne Theatre Company, Playbox, State Theatre Company of South Australia, Opera Australia, Victorian Opera and Melbourne Opera.
Internationally, he toured with European Chamber Opera, London City Opera, Opera in Concert Productions Worldwide and Columbia Artists Management. He continues to perform with Pot-Pourri and through Extraordinary Acts.
Jon is also a VIT-registered Performing Arts teacher with experience from Prep to Year 6. The incursion material has been tested in real classes and adjusted for the way primary students actually work.
Selected stage work
From mainstage theatre to work made for young audiences.

“What happens between the words is the play.”
Jon’s teaching centres on what an audience can read: status, intention, focus, timing, shape and the relationship between performers. Students learn by making those choices visible.
